Thanks to Our Tile Guru, Russell Madden
No matter how extensive the renovation, a historic property is still a historic property – and that means that surfaces aren’t always completely level and walls aren’t always completely plumb. This adds to the charm and ambiance of an old building, but can pose a challenge when installing things like tile!
Each of our 10 guest bathrooms are large – and covered with tile. It’s on shower walls, shower floors and the bathroom floors. In addition to the amount of tile work, we also have complicated cuts in the shower walls for electronic temperature controls, corner shelving for soap and shampoo, and both wall and hand-held showerheads. To make the tiling job even more complex, the bathroom floor tiles need to accommodate the system installed to offer guests heated bathroom floors. Moving out to the Barn, we have two more bathrooms, although they are located in the addition to the 19th century structure and might be a little more plumb!
The tiling work at Pickering House Inn takes the skills of a true master. Fortunately, we have Russell Madden of Russell Madden Tile of Tuftonboro on board. Russell, Pat and the rest of the great team (including Greg, Billy and Derek of Elite Tile) have risen to the challenge at Pickering House Inn and are doing truly beautiful work. We are so thankful for their hard work, attention to detail, and understanding how important extraordinary craftsmanship is to this project.
Russell and his team are doing fantastic work, but they have gone a step farther to support the renovation. Recognizing the incredible expense involved with adapting a historic property for the comfort of today’s visitors, Russell worked with Jules Robitaille at Galleria Stone and Tile/NH Tile in Pembroke, NH to secure savings on our significant tile purchase.
These guys are a key part of our vendor team and we thank them for being a part of the Pickering House renovation!
